Limping After Surgery For Fragmented Medial Coronoid Process

Surgery

This question was submitted during a past webinar on the topic of joint problems in dogs:

Question:
I have a 10 month old puppy, who just had surgery for fragmented medial corononoid process and bilateral elbow dysplasia. He has been on crate rest, x pen rest, leash walks and swimming. How long should it take for his limping to resolve? I have done ACP, Adequan shots and Polyglycan shots. He is going on 5 weeks since surgery …

Answer by James L. Cook, DVM, PhD, DACVS, DACVSMR:
It really depends on how severe the FMCP was and how the rest of the joint looked and what type of surgery was done. Typically takes about 12 weeks to have mature repair tissue in the joint and many dogs do not peak until up to 6 months after surgery.
