Chlorazepate In Canine Patients With Epilepsy

Question submitted during Session III of The Canine Epilepsy Summit:
"How does clorazepate compare to the other emergency meds (midazolam, diazepam)? Is oral the only way to administer clorazepate?"
"Is clorazepate as effective as midazolam in stopping clusters?"
- Answers provided by a Session III Panelist:
Clorazepate is an oral medication (only).
We do not have studies on clorazepate to control seizures in dogs as we do for midazolam - but in general we would expect a drug that is administered either intravenously or intranasally to work more rapidly to control seizures than a drug given orally.
